Packets Available Online or In Office
Petition packets for the upcoming 2027 Consolidated Election will be available soon, around the first day for circulation listed below. Packets for school board races will be available at the Election office. Packets for city, village, park, fire and library districts will be available at the local district offices. Below you will find the petition packet information we provided to each district.
Circulation Dates

- Circulation Starts – August 25, 2026
- Filing – November 16 through November 23, 2026
Important Dates for the City of Carlinville only
- Circulation Starts – July 28, 2026
- Filing – October 19 through October 26, 2026
- If 5 or more candidates file for the same office, a primary will be held on February 23, 2027
Review of Petition Papers
The Macoupin County Clerk and staff cannot provide a review of nominating papers or legal opinions regarding petition papers. Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to consult competent legal counsel regarding qualifications to seek office, preparation of petition papers, circulator requirements, signature requirements, etc. After petition papers have been filed, pages cannot be amended or added. A receipt for filing the required Statement of Economic Interests may be added until 5 p.m. on the last day to file.
Legal Objections to Nominating Papers
A candidate’s nominating papers are subject to legal challenge by qualified objectors when forms are incomplete or improperly completed. Appointments for reviewing registration for signers of petitions can be made with the Voter Registration Department at 217-854-3214 Ext. 918
