While attention is focused on the Nov. 3 midterm election, some people are already looking ahead to the spring.

Next year’s Consolidated Election, which includes municipal and village offices, library and park districts, school districts, and other local offices, is set for April 6. Candidates have been able to circulate nominating petitions since Aug. 25, according to Macoupin County Clerk Pete Duncan.

Next year’s election includes mayoral races — sometimes referred to as village president — in most Macoupin communities.

Nominating petitions must be filed Nov. 16–23. Petition packets for school district seats are available from the Macoupin County Clerk’s Office. Candidates for other local offices should obtain their packets from the appropriate local government office.

Petition packets are also available online at MacoupinVotes.gov under “Get on the Ballot” and “Petition Packets.”
The election cycle also includes a potential Feb. 23 Consolidated Primary Election for the City of Carlinville. A primary will be held if five or more candidates file for the same office.

Carlinville candidates follow an earlier schedule. Their nominating petitions must be filed Oct. 19–26.
