New Past Results Website Opens Decades of Macoupin County Election History to the Public

Macoupin County Clerk Pete Duncan recently announced the launch of pastresults.macoupincountyil.gov. The new site serves as a searchable database of Macoupin’s election results for all federal, state, and county races from 1938 to present and local elections from 1981 to present.

Duncan said that giving users access to this information allows to see electoral history in Macoupin, such as who won each Presidential race or how many candidates ran for Governor in a certain cycle. It also quickly allows for a search of a candidates name, so anyone looking to see when a family member may have served on a school board and easily access that information. “There is no reason this information needed to stay accessible only through the handwritten books and printouts in file cabinets,” Duncan said. “This new database is just the latest step in making elections as transparent as possible in Macoupin.”

The results can be drilled down from a top line level all the way to precinct. For every precinct, voters will be able to look up:

  • Voter registration and turnout rates
  • Competitiveness of federal, state and local candidate races
  • Candidates’ winning thresholds
  • Results of state and local referendums and public questions
  • Candidates’ entire electoral track record

Covering nearly 90 years of history, the Past Results database contains an inventory of data:

  • 9,768 candidate profiles
  • 11,149 candidate contests
  • 359 ballot measures
  • 119 snapshots of voter statistics

The development of pastresults.macoupincountyil.gov was mainly funded through American Rescue Plan funding the county received, giving Macoupin taxpayers new access to this election data without a major cost of the General Fund. The database is just the latest initiative that the Clerk’s office has taken under Duncan to make the election process more open and transparent. Past efforts include being able to check your voter registration online, the interactive election night results page, the comprehensive MacoupinVotes.gov website, putting sample ballots online, among others.
