Macoupin County Election Night Reporting: Key Information for Voters

Carlinville, IL – As Election Day approaches on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, the Macoupin County Clerk’s Office aims to inform voters about the procedures for reporting election results, the handling of mail-in ballots, and the counting of write-in votes.

Election Night Reporting:

On Election Night, preliminary results will include:

  • Ballots cast in person at polling places.
  • Processed early and mail-in votes received up to that point.

Please note that these are unofficial results, as some ballots may still be in transit or pending verification.

Mail-In Ballots:

Illinois law permits mail-in ballots postmarked by April 1, 2025, to be counted if they are received by the election authority within 14 days after Election Day, i.e., by April 15, 2025.

This means that final vote totals may not be available until all eligible mail-in ballots have been received and counted.

Write-In Votes:

Write-in votes require additional verification to ensure they are for candidates who have filed the necessary Declaration of Intent. As such, these votes will be reviewed and counted during the official canvassing process following Election Day. The initial count of write-in votes will happen on April 3rd, 2025. No write-in votes will be online or available before that day.

Polling Place Results:

It’s important to understand that results posted at individual polling places on Election Night do not include:

  • Early votes.
  • Mail-in ballots.

For the most comprehensive and up-to-date results, please refer to the www.macoupinvotes.gov after polls close.

The Macoupin County Clerk’s Office appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as we ensure an accurate and transparent vote count.
