Macoupin County Clerk Pete Duncan announced today that all registered voters in the county will begin receiving new voter registration cards starting September 16th.
State law requires that election offices mail updated voter registration cards every two years as part of routine voter file maintenance. The last county-wide voter roll update occurred in December 2023.
“This process ensures our registration records are up to date and accurate before voters head to the polls,” Duncan said. “It’s an important part of safeguarding election integrity and efficiency.”
Why the Voter Card Mailing Matters
The voter file maintenance serves several key purposes:
• Ensures each voter’s registration is complete and accurate before they vote
• Removes outdated or invalid registrations from the voter file
• Speeds up the Election Day check-in process by reducing the number of inactive records
• Helps reduce election costs by minimizing unnecessary ballots and supplies
What Voters Need to Do
All registered voters should carefully review the new voter card when it arrives. If any information—such as name or address—is incorrect or outdated, voters should update their registration before the next election.
What to Do if You Don’t Receive a Card
If you do not receive a new voter registration card by mail, you can:
Visit www.macoupinvotes.com and use the “Voter Lookup” tool
Call the Election Office at (217) 854-3214 ext. 918
What to Do if You Receive a Card for Someone Who No Longer Lives at Your Address
If you receive a voter card for someone who no longer lives at your address, please return the card to the Election Office with a signed note stating that the individual no longer resides there. This helps the office remove outdated registrations from the voter rolls.
“Keeping our voter rolls clean and accurate is something we’ve worked hard on since I took office three years ago,” Duncan said. “We’re asking all voters to review their new card and help us make sure the voter file is accurate. It ensures a smooth, efficient Election Day for everyone.”
For questions about the voter card mailing or assistance with updating registration, voters should contact the Macoupin County Clerk’s Office at (217) 854-3214, extension 918.
